It really is THAT kind of Monday

Standard

I don’t subscribe to the ‘blue’ Monday idea of thinking or TGIF for that matter (although, Phuza Thursday’s really grown on me). When you run your own business, there really is very little time to think about the Monday blues, shitty deadlines and general chaos. Every day is exactly like the other and Saturday can easily be as crazy as Tuesday, Sunday like Monday.

I know, I know…it’s about balance. But you do make your own time and when you’re not working for the man, you tend to move away from thinking of Monday as the worst day of the week. It becomes another day.

Today, however…I wish there’s a few more of me. Echoes of me (ha ha). Somebody to be the boss, somebody to do the grunt work, somebody to do admin, somebody to do planning, somebody to be a good partner, somebody to be a good friend. There’s very little space for me to just be me today. No fear though (lol)…by Wednesday I’ll be breathing again. In the meantime, I’ll take my sanity in the form of some therapeutic cooking and a wee dram this evening.

Crazy cat is crazy. But oh so purty.

Echoes approved – On my radar this week

It’s winter…and as much as I should be loving boots, snoods and all things cosy and warm…I’m loving these folded aviators from Ray-Ban. This modern take on an old classic has been brought out to mark Ray-Ban’s 75th birthday. And they’re gorgeous. And tiny. And handbag size. And I can’t get them *frowny face*

You can check them out at your nearest Sunglass Hut or on the website here

Wish the shape worked for me. But hey ho…oval face, square frames apparently. So I’ll file it under ‘the one that got away’.

If you’re a Capetonian and you love vintage or vintage-inspired clothing, you will know about Babette. So whimsical. Love her floaty, feminine dresses.

Pretty whimsical and pretty…pretty.

I’m a big fan of hot chocolate. And I’m a fan of chill. At the moment…I’m hardwired to Chilli hot chocolate…with lashes of cocoa and a dash of chill powder. So yum. And perfect for winter.

Hot stuff!

Beef stew, yes please. Beef stew slow-cooked in red wine…hell yeah. My winter recipe is without a doubt beef bourguignon. Takes a little time and care, but oh so good once its done.

Find the recipe at Simply Recipes

Hearty. Meaty. Warm. Comforting.

And finally, my winter tipple is Talisker. A little pricier than your average whisky, but as a sipper it’s always been one of my favorites. I’m currently enjoying a 10-year old .

Talisker is an Island Single Malt Scotch whisky produced by the Talisker Distillery, CarbostScotland; the only distillery on the Isle of Skye.

Water of life

Easy like Sunday (mid)morning

Standard

It’s been an easy Sunday morning (and afternoon). I decided to go-a-hunting for some seriously old analogue beauties… Finding old analogue cameras and expired film has become a bit of an obsession, with my interest having grown from using lomography cameras to curating old film cameras. I decided to hit the old Milnerton Car Boot sale on Marine Drive…borked back and all. The Cowboy decided to brave the cold and the endless rows of junk (another man’s treasure) with me to hopefully find a working beauty. I didn’t. And the ones I found, I needed to research before I bought it. But it was a relaxing mid-morning stroll …

I can like to find a leaker car boot sale

Some lovely old vinyl records…

No words. Nearly bought it for my pom, Mr. Darcy. He guess he’d enjoy it (we’re a very evolved multi-cultural family)

Uh…so much of this kind of thing. NO idea

She was hard of hearing and feisty…he was firmly under the thumb. Ag shame, enduring love, hey.

My new friends…we exchanged numbers, ya’ll. Might even meet up for a coffee and a chinWAG soon. These two were adorbs. Frankly, my pups would die rather than calmly wait for me to finish up my coffee (like their owner was doing)

I’ve been looking for some leather skinny belts to wear with vintage dresses I’ve bought. These were perfect…and at only R25 each, a complete barganski!

Fashionable old ladies…more chic than you.

Standard

OATS, or Old-Age Trendsetters…far more fashionable and brave than most 20- and 30-somethings I know. They’re absolutely fearless in their style choices and manage to pull off the more sartorial choices with ease. I should know…I’ve had to trek across multiple malls looking for one sodding burnt orange flower (to pair with a navy outfit). The FPU, quite the stylish gal, insists on a slick of red lippie even at this age en sy’s nie skaam as dit kom by kleur nie.

I’m always looking for new themes and subjects for my lomo projects and was intrigued by this guy – Ari Seth Cohen -. He’s the blogger and now author of the blog and book, Advanced Style…and he blogs about really stylish, refreshingly fashion-forward old ladies. Bless. I hope I’m as glam in my 60′s, 70′s, 80′s (90′s?)

Maybe I will…check it out, the FPU owns it in her summer hat. Like a boss.

Versace Winter Love at Sunglass Hut

Standard

I totally dig wearing shades in Winter. You might think I’m crazy, but I’ve just had my birthday and am officially an *whispers* older person. So, these ain’t  laughing lines, they’re lines that’s developed because of my constant squinting. So, I’ve taken to wearing sunglasses all the time…and I can see that I’m going to need something for those long, lazy, rainy afternoon drives to Franschoek.

I love the biker chic range from the Sunglass Hut team. Have my eye on you Versace! Grrrrrr….

Love the shape of the Versace and the lighter lens colour is perfect for Winter Sun.

Very Nice. Very very nice.
